Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and ministers of his cabinet passed a resolution terming TTV Dinakaran's appointment as AIADMK deputy general secretary 'illegal'.
The move comes as a massive blow to the Sasikala faction of the party. Dinakaran, however, remained defiant and said that none could remove him from the party.
According to reports, here is the formula being worked out: EPS will continue as CM; OPS will be deputy CM and party general secretary.
Two of OPS's lieutenants, Mafoi K Pandiarajan and Semmalai, may get cabinet berths. For this, EPS may drop two ministers from his present team.
A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Palaniswamy at the party headquarters in Royapettah decided to overrule the elevation of Sasikala's nephew as party deputy general secretary as null and void.
As developments unfolded in AIADMK (Amma) camp, rival faction leader O Panneerselvam on Thursday said his side was "keenly" watching the situation and that a decision on possible merger of the party's two factions will be taken "reflective" of people's expectations.
The TTV Dhinkaran camp in AIADMK on Thursday hit out at Chief Minister K Palaniswami for questioning the authority of the Deputy General Secretary, terming it as a "betrayal" and warned him of a backlash.
