"டாக்டர் பழனியப்பன் அவர்களின் வளர்ச்சியை வெறும் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி என்று கூறிவிட முடியாது . பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி என்பது தனி மனிதனுடன் நின்று விடுவது. பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி என்பது தனியுடைமை. மருத்துவ வளர்ச்சி என்பது தான் பொதுவுடைமை. அவர் இந்த இரண்டும் இணைந்த வளர்ச்சியைப் பெற்றிருக்கிறார். அவர் இரண்டு வெற்றிகளைப் பெற்றிருக்கிறார்.

ஒன்று அவரது அறிவு வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளது; இரண்டு அவரது மனிதாபிமானம் வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளது.

அவரது அறிவுடன் கூடிய மனிதாபிமானம் வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளது. அவரது மனிதாபிமானத்துடன் கூடிய அறிவும் வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளது. மனிதாபிமானத்துடன் கூடிய அறிவு தான் மனிதனை மேம்படுத்தும் என்று நான் உறுதியாக நம்புகிறேன்.

காரைக்குடியில் செல்வந்தர் குடியில் பிறந்த தங்கள் மகனை பணத் தொழிலில் விட்டு விடாமல் , பதிப்புத்தொழிலில் விட்டு விடாமல் , கலைத்துறைக்கு விட்டு விடாமல் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான உயிர்களைக் காப்பாற்றும் பெரும் பணியான மருத்துவத் துறைக்கு அனுப்பிய அவரது பெற்றோர்களை நான் பாராட்டுகிறேன். அவர் தன் பெற்றோரிடமிருந்து பண்பாடு , அறிவு . சமூக ஒழுக்கம் மூன்றையும் கொண்டு வந்திருப்பது அவர் பெற்ற பேறு.

ஒரு நோயாளி மருத்துவர் மீது நம்பிக்கை வைக்க வேண்டும். ஒரு மருத்துவர் நோயாளி மீது நம்பிக்கை வைக்க வேண்டும். நம்பிக்கை இருவருக்கும் பரஸ்பரமானது. நாட்டில் நான்கு பேர் சரியாக இருக்க வேண்டும். நீதிபதிகள் , டாக்டர்கள் , காவல் துறைத் தலைவர்கள் , கல்வித்துறை தலைவர்கள் என்கிற இந்த நான்கு பேரும் சரியாக இருந்தால் நாட்டு ஒழுக்கம் சரியாக இருக்கும்.

அதோ போகிறாரே நீதிபதி அவர் நேர்மையானவர் , அந்த மருத்துவர் ஒழுக்கமானவர் , அந்த கல்வி போதிக்கும் ஆசிரியர் மிகவும் உயர்ந்தவர் என்கிற கருத்து இருக்கிற சமூகத்தில் ஒழுக்கத்தின் நிழல் படியும் .

இந்திய மருத்துவத்துறை பற்றி மதிக்கத்தக்க தகவல் என்னிடம் இல்லை. இந்தியாவில் 2000 பேருக்கு ஒரு மருத்துவர் தான் இருக்கிறார்.ஆனால் மேலை நாடுகளில் 1000 பேருக்கு ஒரு மருத்துவர் இருக்கிறார்.

இன்னும் ஐந்தாண்டுகளில் இந்தியாவில் ஆறுலட்சம் மருத்துவர்கள் தேவை . 200 மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகள் தேவை.

மருத்துவமனைகளில் ஏழு லட்சம் படுக்கைகள் தேவை. இந்தியத் தேவையை ஈடுகட்டும் வகையில் பழனியப்பன் தன் பங்காக இந்திய மருத்துவத் துறைக்கு இந்த மருத்துவமனையை அளித்துள்ளார்.

இம் மருத்துவ மனையின் திறப்பு விழாவில் நோயாளிகள் பெருகி அதிகம் வந்து வாழ்க என்று வாழ்த்தலாமா? முடியாது. இங்கே வந்தவர்கள் அனைவரும் நலம் பெற்று வாழ்க என்று வாழ்த்துகிறேன்." என்று வாழ்த்திப் பேசினார்.

விழாவில் , நடிகர் பிரபு பேசும் போது , " இந்த மூன்றாவது மருத்துவமனையை டாக்டர் பழனியப்பன் திறந்திருப்பது முன்னேற்றத்தைக் காட்டுகிறது என்பதை விட அவர்களின் சேவை அர்ப்பணிப்பு உணர்வைக் காட்டுகிறது என்று சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

நான் இன்று ஆரோக்கியமாக இருக்கிறேன் என்றால் அதற்குக் காரணம் டாக்டர் பழனியப்பன் தான் என்பேன். எனக்கிருந்த பல பிரச்சினைகளைச் சரி செய்தவர் அவர். இந்த மருத்துவமனை சிறந்து விளங்க வாழ்த்துகிறேன்." என்று வாழ்த்தினார்.

'நீயா நானா' புகழ் கோபிநாத் பேசும் போது, " டாக்டர் பழனியப்பன் எனக்கு ஒரு சகோதரர் மாதிரி இருப்பவர். எது பற்றியும் பேச , கேட்க , பகிர , கருத்து கேட்க என்று இருக்கும் நமக்கான சிறு வட்டத்தில் உள்ள மிகச் சிலரில் அவரும் ஒருவர். ஒரு டாக்டர் எப்பொழுதும் நம்பிக்கை தருபவராக இருக்க வேண்டும். அப்படி நம்பிக்கை தருபவர் அவர். இவர் பலருக்கு குடும்ப டாக்டராக இருப்பவர். குடும்ப டாக்டர் என்றதும் குடும்பத்திலுள்ள அனைவருக்கும் மருத்துவம் பார்க்கும் டாக்டராக இருப்பவர் என்று மட்டுமல்ல அவர்களின் குடும்பத்தில் ஒருவராகவும் இருப்பவர். இவரது மருத்துவ மனைக்கு வந்த அனைவரையும் சம மரியாதையுடன் நடத்துவார் . இவர் இன்னும் வளர்ந்து உயரம் தொட வேண்டும். " என்று வாழ்த்தினார்.

டாக்டர் பழனியப்பன் நிறைவாக நன்றியுரையாற்றினார். அவர் தனது நன்றியுரையில் "இம் மருத்துவமனை என்பது

எனது தனி மனித சாதனையல்ல. இதில் பணியாற்றும் 350 பேரின் உழைப்பால் சேவையால்தான் இது சாத்தியப்பட்டுள்ளது. அந்தக் குழுவில நானும் ஒருவன் அவர்களின் பிரதிநிதியாகவே இங்கு வந்து நன்றி கூறுகிறேன்.நன்றி!'' என்றார்.

விழாவில்திருமதி பிரபு , திருமதி விசாலாட்சி திருப்பதி , திருமதி ஏகம்மை பழனியப்பன் ஆகியோர் குத்துவிளக்கு ஏற்றினார்கள், முன்னதாக "மெட்வே" மருத்துவமனையின் சி.ஓ.ஓ. நரேஷ் அனைவரையும் வரவேற்றார்.

Gayathri in Vijay Sethupathi's next

Gayathrie of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom fame will be seen playing an important role in director Thyagarajan Kumararaja's (of Aaranya Kaandam fame) second film Aneethi Kathaigal.

The film has Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, and Fahadh Faasil in important roles. The latest is that Gayathri Shankar has joined the team.

Says the actress, “I am paired opposite Vijay Sethupathi in the film and I play an urban, lower middle-class girl. I bagged the offer during the Puriyaadha Pudhir promotions. I couldn’t say ‘no’ when Kumararaja approached me."

She adds: "I will not be able to divulge any information about my character, but it is going be pivotal to the story."

“Recently, Bagavathi Perumal (Bugs of NPNK) told me that he had worked with Thiagarajan Kumararaja before. I was told that he is a task master and never gets satisfied, until he gets the perfect shot. He is also extremely particular about the dialogues and would go for an umpteen number of retakes to achieve it!" she adds.

The film is an anthology, but she has no qualms about being one of many heroines. “Samantha isn’t there in my story. I’ll be shooting from September 10,” she adds.

Minister, Tamilisai slam Kamal

Minister D Jayakumar and BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan have slammed actor Kamal Haasan, who has of late been making political comments especially against the AIADMK.

"He is building an imaginary fort to capture the fort (Fort St George is the state secretariat). But that will not happen," Tamilisai said.

Jayakumar said that Kamal appeared to be dependent more on social media than on party and workers. "Theorising in politics doesn't work," he said.

Speaking at a wedding reception organised by Thangavel, all-India treasurer of his fans’ association, in Coimbatore on Wednesday, he said people should not consider it as just a wedding function but an inauguration function (for politics).

At the airport later in the evening, the actor said he had to begin his political journey somewhere — it didn’t matter if it was Coimbatore or on Twitter.

"We will carry on with our work now. But we will march towards the fort when the right time comes," Kamal said addressing his fans.

Blue Whale death in Madurai: Chennai police on high alert

A 19-year-old college student Vignesh in Madurai is suspected to be the first victim in Tamil Nadu of the macabre online game Blue Whale.

Police found the image of a whale carved on Vignesh's left hand with "Blue Whale" written below it. The 'Blue Whale' game has been blamed for at least three more suicides this month, in Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.

Meanwhile, the Chennai police have been put on high alert and parents have been asked to monitor online activities of their children.

In an advisory issued on Monday, the police noted the propensity of the game to instigate suicide and self-inflicted injuries.

It asked parents to prevent children from becoming potential victims of the harmful game. They have also been asked to watch out for signs of concerns in children, that may indicate their involvement in the game, such as "abnormal activity, depressed and violent behaviour, long lonely online hours, late night surfing, avoiding company of family members, concealing one’s online activity and unusual injuries on the body."

The online game, reportedly linked to a couple of deaths in the country, allegedly encourages participants to do several dangerous tasks, including carving picture of a whale onto their arms or legs and climbing up the roof, crane etc.

Nirmala Sitharaman to take over TN affairs?

In a strong indication of the Cabinet reshuffle happening within a couple of days, BJP chief Amit Shah is learnt to have taken resignation from scores of ministers on Thursday.

According to reports, Union ministers -- Kalraj Mishra, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Giriraj Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Sanjeev Baliyan and Uma Bharti -- will be dropped from the council of ministers due to various reasons.

It is learnt that Nirmala Sitharaman would either be made the governor of Tamil Nadu or the state unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party.

On Thursday, BJP chief Amit Shah met PM Narendra Modi. Although BJP has played it down, speculation has it that there will ministers resigning.

BJP however, has said Shah keeps meeting Modi regularly and also pointed out that the meeting comes a day ahead of the beginning of a three-day meeting of the RSS and its allied organisations in Vrindavan.

The BJP has, incidentally, named Mahendra Nath Pandey as its next state unit chief in Uttar Pradesh, where he will replace Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is also one of UP’s two deputy chief ministers.

Art Director turns into a Director

Uma Shankar, who has been working in the Tamil film industry for the past 16 years as art director is now directing a movie named “Kural 146”

A short film that he directed was officially selected in the 7th Dada Saheb Film Festival held in Delhi. Out of about 1700 films, Isha was officially selected under short film category from Tamil Nadu. Music Director Guru Kalyan, Cinematographer Christopher Joseph, Editor Sarathy also received the selection certificates.

This short film is now evolving as a full length feature film Directed by Uma Shankar in Guru Kalyan’s music. The song composing work is in progress.

Thanking the recognition for his script that Uma Shankar received from a National Institution, the director is now putting in all efforts in directing Kural 146

Vadivelu rocks on sets of Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi

The shoot of Vadivelu's heroic venture Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi, a sequel to Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, has commenced in Chennai.

Sources say that director Chimbu Devan is currently busy filming a grand song for the film with foreign junior artists and a large number of dancers on a grand set erected in the outskirts of Chennai.

Also, it is learnt that the performance of Vadivelu is making everyone on the sets laugh out loud. "Vaigai Puyal is delivering terrific performance," sources said.

After playing comic roles for a while, Vadivelu will return in the title role in Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi.  The sequel started rolling last week. On the occasion, the film's motion poster was also unveiled.

A huge period set has been erected in Chennai’s EVP studio where some key scenes in the first schedule are being shot. "It’s going to be shot on a bigger canvas," sources added.

In the first film, Pulikesi was a British sympathiser that made him the enemy of the violent rebel groups that were leading the revolt against the British Raj. However, by the end of the film, he had a change of heart and promises an exemplary governance to his people.

Sivakarthikeyan's cameo in Arunraja's directorial debut?

Arunraja Kamaraj, who played comic roles in films like Raja Rani and Maan Karate, and grabbed everyone’s attention with the Neruppuda and Theri numbers from Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Vijay’s Theri respectively, is turning a director now.

Arun has revealed that it’s been his long-time desire to become a filmmaker and he only took to writing songs to support himself financially. He is all set to turn director with a film on women’s cricket.

"I have taken inspiration from several real-life incidents to pen this script. Irrespective of the sport, or the gender, family's support is important for a sports person to succeed," he said.

"There are several films that deal with other kind of sports, but mine will probably be the first one to talk about women's cricket. I can say it will be one-of-a-kind," he added.

To finalize the casting, the Neruppuda singer is planning to audition actresses who can also play cricket.

EPS, OPS say no place for family rule in TN

Apparently taking aim at jailed party chief V K Sasiakala and her deputy and nephew TTV Dhinakaran, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami has said there is no room for family rule and graft under the AIADMK regime.

“Amma’s government is a fort that protects the poor and there is none who can destroy it. Some are dreaming of somehow toppling this government while others want to come to power through backdoors. Their dreams will not fructify,” he said.

Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam too spoke on similar lines, at the MGR centenary celebrations at Vandalur.

Their comments come amid the rebellion by 21 MLAs, loyal to Dhinakaran, who had met state Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao on August 22 and expressed lack of confidence in the chief minister, a day after factions led by Palaniswami and Panneerselvam merged.

The aspirations of MGR and late CM J. Jayalalithaa who nurtured the party will be fulfilled and in the process we are prepared to make sacrifices to make the party remain united, the CM said.

Palaniswami also said there is no place for graft and anarchy in the regime. Sasikala is serving a prison sentence after being convicted in a disproportionate assets case.

As Governor refuses to ask CM to prove majority, oppn explore other options

Tamil Nadu governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and the Centre have ruled out for now intervening in the crisis in the AIADMK and directing Chief Minister K Palaniswamy to face a trial of strength in the state Assembly.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Wednesday claimed that Rao had told a delegation that he cannot intervene in party matters.

“Governor Rao told us that under the present circumstances he cannot intervene and the law does not give room for it,” he told reporters after meeting the governor at Chennai.

"We told him the ball was in his court. The Governor said the ball has not come to his court. This reflects the position of the BJP at the Centre which is against the fall of the AIADMK government," Thirumavalavan said.

Following the development, the DMK and other Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday accused the Governor of playing a "partisan" role and "passing the buck" by refusing to convene a meeting of the Assembly for the AIADMK government to prove its majority.

Meanwhile, the DMK and the TTV Dhinakaran camp are now planning to meet the president of India. On Wednesday, Dhinakaran said all problems in the party and the government would end if chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam resigned from their posts.

Vivegam issue: High Court steps in

The Madras High Court has sought the response of State government and 28 theatres in different parts of the State on the issue of violating the rule on ticket pricing and selling Ajith's Vivegam tickets for high rates.

Justice M Duraiswamy also directed Tamil Nadu Government to file counter affidavit within two weeks and further hearing will be on September 11.

The Judge gave the order on a petition filed by G Devarajan and directed the Government pleader to file counter affidavit within two weeks.

Devarajan submitted that the theatre owners across Tamil Nadu were collecting excess ticket fares for the movies acted by top stars ignoring the prescribed rates fixed by the government.

Arguing the case in person, the petitioner mentioned that he had filed three similar cases during the release of Rajinikanth starrer Kabali, Suriya starrer Singam II and also Vijay starrer Bairavaa.

It may be recalled that TN Government refused to increase the ticket price in the state and the Producers Council’s recent talks with them didn't yield any fruitful outcome.

Original driving license must from Sept 1, punishment those who are not having it

The Madras high court on Tuesday refused to stay an order by the Tamil Nadu government, making it mandatory for motorists to carry original driving licenses with them from September 1.

Meanwhile, the city police has stated that those motorists who do not carry original driving licenses will be prosecuted.

In a press release, police said the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety has also instructed all states to cancel the driving licences of motorists involved in certain violations. Referring to various sections of the Motor Vehicle act, the police said Section 181 of the MVAct 1988, describes the punishment for driving a vehicle without valid driving licence.

People driving a vehicle without valid driving licences are liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine which may go up to Rs 500, or with both.

The statement further said as per Section 3 of the MV Act 1988, it is mandatory that no person shall drive the motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds an effective driving licence issued to him authorizing him to drive the vehicle.

Recently, Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar said drivers will need to carry their original licence from September 1.

He said there have been instances when drivers carry photocopies of licences, even though they might have been temporarily suspended or revoked.

"This measure was taken after consultation with senior traffic police officials. It will help reduce accidents," the minister said.

All AIADMK camps shift focus to Delhi

After a high political drama within the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, the focus now has shifted to New Delhi.

A delegation of AIADMK leaders, belonging to the recently merged faction, met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday and sought release of pending funds to Tamil Nadu.

They, however, denied discussion with Jaitley on the political developments taking place in the state.

The camp led by TTV Dhinakaran, the nephew of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala approached the Election Commission days after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanaswami joined hands with rival O Panneerselvam to end the bitter feud between the warring factions of the party.

He approached the Election Commission, saying the poll panel should hear him before taking any decision on the party's election symbol.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha member V Maithreyan is expected to submit a letter to the poll panel on formal withdrawal of their earlier affidavits, besides announcing their merger.

Meanwhile, with Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao yet to take a decision on the letters of 19 MLAs withdrawing support. Following this, the rebel MLAs are planning to meet the President.

Now, Mersal gets trademark

After getting an exclusive emoji on Twitter, Vijay's Mersal has now become the first south Indian movie to get trademarked.

"This is the first time, a title is being trademarked here. So, if anybody uses the term Mersal for commercial purposes, a part of their revenue should be paid to the team as royalty," sources said.

Recently, Mersal became the first South Indian movie to get a customized Twitter emoji. It is to be noted that the trend is already there in Bollywood and Hollywood.

A small digital image of Vijay’s look in Mersal will appear on Twitter as soon as fans type Mersal related hashtags including #Mersal #MersalTeaser #MersalMusicLive #Neethanae and #AalaPoranTamizhan.

According to sources, going forward, Twitter India will use the emoji for the new hashtags of team Mersal in coming days.

Vivegam story is mine, claims producer

Ravichandran Chandrasekar of Libra Productions has alleged that Ajith’s recent release Vivegam was based on a script he had narrated to the actor’s associate.

In a post on his Facebook page, he said that he’d made a presentation based on the script of his I-Na, to a ‘close associate’ of Ajith Kumar, who’d assured him that he would get an appointment with the actor.

After three weeks, the associate told Ravichandran that Ajith did not want to do a film with a ‘debut director’.

Ravichandran also alleged that around sixty percent of Vivegam was based on his story idea and presentation.

But, he refuted suggestions that either Ajith or Vivegam’s director Siva had anything to do with the plagiarism, as he had not met either of them.

Ravichandran said that some major technicians, to whom he’d narrated the script of I-Na, had called him after watching Vivegam as they saw the similarities. He has now asked for the associate’s immediate apology.

Meanwhile, Vivegam set a record of sorts by becoming the highest first weekend grosser of 2017 in Chennai. The movie minted Rs 5.75 crore in the first weekend, with an opening day collection of Rs 1.22 crore, followed by Rs 1.51 crore the next day, in Chennai alone.

AIADMK gen council on Sept 12 to remove Sasikala and family

The merged factions of AIADMK on Monday called a meeting of its general council on September 12, with the purpose to nullify the appointment of V K Sasikala as party General Secretary.

Her other family memmbers, including deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, would also be expelled from the party, it is said.

A release said the meeting will be presided over by party's Presidium Chairman E. Madhusudhanan at Sri Varu Venkatachalapathy Palace Mahal, in Vanagaram near Chennai.

Earlier in the day, both the factions of AIADMK met at the headquarters, where four resolutions were adoption — including the announcements made by the sidelined Deputy General Secretary of the AIADMK (Amma) T T V Dhinakaran as "not valid," and retrieving Dr Namadhu MGR and Jaya TV from the clan of V.K. Sasikala.

The functionaries resolved to term the appointments made by TTV Dhinakaran as invalid as he had no authority to appoint or sack the office bearers.

"All those appointed by Puratchi Thalaivi Amma and those who came to positions through elections will continue to function in their same positions," it said.

The meeting was attended by Palaniswami, Panneerselvam, ministers, legislators, Members of Parliament and other office bearers. The 19 legislators belonging to the faction led by T.T.V. Dinakaran, who have been ferried to a resort in Puducherry to prevent poaching, did not attend the meeting.

Chennai police issues advisory on Blue Whale challenge

The Greater Chennai city police has issued an advisory to the public regarding the Blue Whale, an online game that assigns participants, mostly teenagers, many tasks, with the final challenge requiring them to commit suicide.

Police said the internet game “instructs its participants, mostly teenagers, to carry out 50 dangerous tasks, the final challenge being committing suicide.”

“Teenagers and young adults in their formative years seek social validation, acceptance and aspire to be part of something bigger than them and this game exploits that,” the official statement read.

Police requested parents to monitor their children closely and in particular look out for depressed/violent behaviour, long lonely hours online, late night surfing, avoiding family company among other unusual activities.

"Unusual injuries in the body could be a sign of concern as they may be involved in such games. Please monitor your child's social media activity and ensure they are allowed to access them only when you are convinced that they are mature enough to handle them." it added.

According to the police, some of the dangerous tasks which are part of the game include waking up at 4.20 am, watching horror videos alone, inflicting self-injury and the supposedly most apparent of them all-drawing picture of whale and then carving the same onto forearm or legs.

Crucial AIADMK meet in Chennai, governor expected to spell out decision on trust vote

Today is going to be another day of developments as far as the AIADMK is concerned. Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will chair an AIADMK top leaders meeting, during which action on Sasikala's family, especially TTV Dhinakaran, will be decided.

Also, Tamil Nadu governor Ch Vidysagar Rao, who is being urged by opposition parties and rebel MLAs to direct the CM to prove majority in the Assembly, is expected to spell out his decision today.

Continuing his sacking spree of AIADMK leaders from their party posts to establish his supremacy within the party, 'ousted' Deputy General Secretary Dhinakaran on Sunday dismissed Chief Minister as the party's Salem Suburban District Secretary.

The opposition led by DMK on Sunday petitioned Rao for ordering an immediate floor test in the state Assembly and directing Palaniswami to prove the majority of his government.

Meanwhile, senior minister Dindigul Srinivasan, has said "a film is running and its climax will soon happen in the state Assembly."

In the meantime, there is a buzz that the AIADMK will soon join the NDA and be a part of the Modi government at the Centre.

A senior BJP leader was quoted as saying that it is only a matter of time before an announcement is made on this.

Vivegam: Ajith sets new collection records

Ajith's Vivegam, which hit the screens on Thursday, has collected Rs 25.83 cr in India on Day 1, setting a new trend.

The film's collections overtook Ajith's earlier release Vedhalam by Rs 7 crore, according to trade analysts.

They also said the all India collection is Rs 25.83 crore, which happens to be the second highest for any Tamil film, after Rajinikanth’s Kabali.

This is the third consecutive collaboration between director Siva and Ajith and they have got a lot of praise to present a film on an international scale. However, reviews pointed at a lack of coherent story.

Released in over 3000 screens worldwide, Vivegam has reported excellent occupancy as per early reports. Despite some mixed reviews, Vivegam has broke the box-office records.

Meanwhile, to cash in on the popularity of the actor, theatres especially single screens seem to have sold their tickets at inflated prices. Some of the fans took to social media to post the picture of tickets where there was no mention of the price.

2.0 making video stuns all

While Superstar Rajinikanth's 2.0 is currently in its post-production stage, the makers have released a making video of the film, on the auspicious Vinayaka Chathurthi day.

Going by the video, it looks like the team has worked extra hard for the sequel, which appears to be grandeur than the first part.

The video shows some candid shots of Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar on the sets of the film. From the making video, it's quite clear that the audiences are in for a big surprise.

The nearly 2 minute clip shows the various stages of filming including scenes with the protagonist Rajinikanth and the movie's principal antagonist Akshay Kumar.

There's action and drama (so far no romance although we did get a glimpse of Amy Jackson) and all that other fabulous ingredients which would make the film a blockbuster.

The movie is a sequel to the earlier blockbuster Endhiran, released in 2010. Endhiran, released as Robot in other languages, which had Rajinikanth in the lead role, was the biggest hit of that year.

TN govt to implement road safety rules in a strict manner

Close on the heels of making carrying of original driving licenses mandatory for motorists, the Tamil Nadu government has now said it would implement road safety rules in a strict manner to prevent accidents.

According to an official release, Rule 396 of Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 prohibits carrying anything which extends beyond the rear most vehicle body such as iron rods/angles/sheets etc. hanging beyond the body of vehicle.

The vehicles carrying goods with load projection either in the side or rear of the vehicle are causing fatal accidents and taking valuable lives of people. The recent case is a major accident happened near Vallam in Trichy to Thanjavur NHAI road on 14.07.2017 in which one Tata Ace vehicle laden with iron rods and angles projecting beyond rear body of
the vehicle was hit by a State Transport Corporation bus killing 11 persons.

This subject was discussed in the Road Safety review meeting by the Minister for Transport and decided that Rule 396 of Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 is to be enforced strictly and no vehicle should be allowed on the road carrying the loads hanging either in the side or rear of the
vehicle.

Accordingly instructions have been issued to the Police Department that in all such cases of vehicles, if any fatal accident is caused, then F.I.R will be registered against the consignor and consignee of the goods and they will also be prosecuted for causing death along with driver of the vehicle.

As more MLAs support TTV, CM calls for urgent meet of AIADMK top brass

With the number of MLAs supporting TTV Dhinakaran touching 21, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who is facing rebellion, has called for a meeting of the top brass of the AIADMK.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao is coming back to Chennai today, days after he left for Mumbai after receiving letters from 19 MLAs, who withdrew their support to EPS.

The 19 MLAs, who were shepherded to a Puducherry resort to prevent poaching by EPS or OPS loyalists, occupied themselves with playing with swings and sea-saw.

On Friday, they vacated the seaside resort, where they were putting up since Tuesday, and checked into a hotel. The legislators moved out of the resort as it was already booked for the weekend.

Meanwhile, Dhinakaran on Friday removed another minister from a key party post as part of organisational shake-up. He "relieved" Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan as the party's Dharmapuri district secretary and bifurcated the Dindigul district unit.

In the meantime, Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary H Raja has said that the rebellion by 19 MLAs supporting TTV Dhinakaran is not a threat to the AIADMK government led by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in Tamil Nadu.

Vivegam opens big

In the wee hours of today, the much awaited 'Thala' Ajith's Vivegam opened big in theatres across Tamil Nadu.

Most of the theatres started early morning shows at 4 am and witnessed unprecedented crowds of Ajith fans, who celebrated the movie's release like a festival.

The bookings of the tickets were done at a rapid pace and almost all the shows for the first four days are houseful now.

On Wednesday, director of the film Siva took to Twitter and said, "Sai sai...delivered all the prints in all formats...thank u thala ajith sir and my team #vivegam... respect and love to all."

Billed as a racy action thriller, Vivegam has released in more than 1500 screens across the globe on August 24 and it’s going to be a record release for the actor.

The most expected trailer of Ajith's Vivegam, was recently out. The entire story arc of the movie was shown in the trailer.

It’s an Ajith show all the way, a showcase for the star’s charisma and cool quotient and his ability to make the numerous stunts look effortless.

Ileana alleges sexual harassment

Ileana D'Cruz took to Twitter to express her anger after allegedly being harassed by a group of men on Sunday.

When the Nanban actress was on her way to the Lakme Fashion Week, where she walked the ramp as a showstopper for De Belle, she was halted at a traffic signal by six men, who banged and pressed themselves against the car and laughed while lying on the bonnet.

“It’s a pretty shitty world we live in. I’m a public figure. I understand that I don’t have the luxury of a private & an anonymous life," she wrote.

Ileana added: "But that doesn’t give any man the right to misbehave with me. Don’t confuse “fan antics” with that. I am a WOMAN at the end of the day."

Also, in an interview to Avinash Lohana for Mumbai Mirror, Ileana recounted how six men attempted to sexually harass her.

She also did not want to put her chauffer in a dangerous situation where he would be up against the six men. Worried that he could be beaten up and she would still be unable to stop them, Ileana decided to stay put in the car while her chauffer honked at the men.

EPS, OPS issue strict warning to Sasikala family

Even as 19 legislators supporting TTV Dinakaran continued to stay in a Puducherry resort, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy CM O Panneerselvam joined hands to issue a strict warning to Sasikala clan.

Speaking at MGR centenary at Ariyalur, EPS said, "Amma had defeated many conspiracies during her time, that is why she lives in hearts of millions, so no one can make this government fall."

Panneerselvam said that no one has the power to topple this government. On Wednesday, both EPS and OPS took a single flight to reach Tiruchy, from where they left for Ariyalur.

Meanwhile, close on the heels of its alliance partner, the DMK, demanding floor test in the assembly, Congress on Wednesday urged Tamil Nadu governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to direct chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to prove his majority, as 19 MLAs have raised revolt against him.

In the meantime, speaking to reporters at Chennai airport, Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai, one of the senior leaders of the AIADMK, ruled out any threat to the government.

"The government led by Palaniswami is functioning without any differences. I don't see any threat," he said.

Thambidurai added: "There will be a split only if two thirds of MLAs go out from a party. But that is not the case now. The government is strong."

SC denies relief to Sasikala, TTV continues to sack AIADMK senior leaders

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala's review petition seeking re-examination of its verdict holding her guilty in a 19-year-old disproportionate assets case.

The judges declined the AIADMK chief's request to be set free, ruling that the top court did not find any reason to change its verdict convicting Sasikala, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's foster son, and Elavarasi, widow of Sasikala's elder brother.

"We do not find any error in the common judgment impugned, much less an apparent error on the face of the record, so as to call for its review. The review petitions are, accordingly, dismissed," a bench of Justices S A Bobde and Amitava Roy.

Meanwhile, AIADMK (Amma) leader TTV Dhinakaran on Wednesday removed several district functionaries and minister R B Udayakumar from their party posts and appointed his supporters.

Ghibran has been roped in as the music director while Nirav Shah's former assistant Saravanan will be the cinematographer.

National Award-winning editor Vivek Harshan and 2.0's art director T Muthuraj are also on board.

Shankar, who produced the first part, will bankroll this one too, along with Lyca Productions, who are producing Shankar's directorial venture, the Superstar Rajinikanth starrer 2.0.

Chimbudevan, who wielded the megaphone for the first part, is the director for Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi too.

According to sources, this film will be set in the same universe as the first one and will be as funny as that film.

Ajith's gesture to Sivakarthikeyan

The teaser of Sivakarthikeyan's upcoming film Velaikkaran, will be played in theaters screening Ajith's much awaited action thriller Vivegam from August 24.

Meanwhile, bookings for the first few days of Vivegam are already done in almost all theatres in Tamil Nadu, despite the film getting released in record number of screens.

Directed by Siva, the film marks the coming together of the filmmaker with the 'thala' for the third time, after the super hits Veeram and Vedhalam. They will join hands for the fourth consecutive time too, sources say.
