Post Vardah, internet operators in Chennai work overtime to restore lines

Internet service providers in Chennai are working overtime to restore connections, which were hit hard by Cyclone Vardah on Monday.

A spokesperson of ACT broadband said, "our team is working to fix the issue". While the state-owned BSNL officials are also worknig to bring back normalcy in connectivity, Airtel too is taking steps in a fast manner as the cable was laid underground.

"Dear Customer, the cyclone in Chennai has impacted one of our undersea cables which may affect Internet speeds of your Airtel Broadband connection. We deeply regret the inconvenience. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue and services will be normalised shortly," said Airtel via SMS to its broadband customers.

A statement from Airtel said: "Due to the severe cyclone at Chennai coast yesterday, one of our international undersea cables has been damaged and internet traffic has been partially impacted."

"As a result, customers in some locations may be experiencing slow internet/data speeds. Our teams are working to normalise the operations at the earliest possible and making alternate arrangements to divert international internet traffic."

S Murali, Business Head, Tamilnadu, Vodafone India, said, "At Vodafone we have robust processes to ensure business continuity in times of crisis. The cyclone Vardah  which paralyzed Chennai and nearby areas caused disruption of some of our services as well."

"Our on ground teams are working on war footing to restore services in the shortest possible time. Almost all services in these locations are almost back to normal, the voice and data services in and around some areas are being progressively restored and we should soon be in back to normalcy."

"Nearly 21 stores in Chennai  are fully  operational now and helping customers finding solutions to their queries. We at Vodafone apologies for the inconveniences being caused to customers due to this force majeure. We are rapidly getting the network back in place."
