A list of dos and don'ts has been released by the Chennai police to prevent any untoward incidents on New Year's eve.
A direction to this effect was given to hotel owners during a meeting chaired by Additional Commissioner of Police K Shankar, Deputy Commissioners (South zone) S Anbu, (East zone) S Manoharan, a police release said.
Hotel authorities have been directed to take up all preventive measures ahead of the celebrations so that no untoward incidents take place, it said.
"Hotels should take prior permission from police personnel to host events. All entertainment-related activities have to be conducted between 6 pm and 1 am, with entry restrictions enforced from 12.30 am. Venues should be equipped with CCTV cameras and details of vehicles entering the premises should be recorded."
Swimming pools should be closed and guarded between 6 pm and 6 am. In addition to this, stages should be set up only after getting clearance from departments, while these should not be erected near or below pools.
Police have also informed that managements of hotel would be made responsible for the cars that are parked on the streets if they obstruct traffic.
"We also advise the revellers to refrain from spraying coloured powders or coloured water on people on the streets. Over speeding and drunk driving will be penalised. The public shall refrain from getting into the sea or getting on to any boats to venture into the sea."
