Sasikala backs TTV, slaps legal notice on brother Dhivakaran

V K Sasikala, close aide of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, issued a legal notice to her brother V Dhivaharan on Friday evening, warning him for voicing his support to chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam.

Sasikala issued the notice through her advocate, where she charged her sibling with speaking in support of AIADMK leaders, Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam, who have fallen out of favour with her.

In the 14-page statement, she disowned her brother Dhivaharan saying that he should not call her sister again in any of his media interaction in future.

The statement also said that the people of the state would not forgive him for having an alliance with the 'betrayers' — Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam.

According to the notice, Sasikala had been actively involved in party affairs since the lifetime of Jayalalithaa and was now legally fighting the problems created in the party by the “betrayers”.

In such circumstances, it was quite shocking to note that her brother had suddenly begun giving interviews in support of the betrayers, Sasikala said.

Chennai traffic police unveil cashless fine payment system

In a bid to improve transparency and eliminate cash transaction, the Chennai city police on Thursday launched a cashless fine payment system for traffic violators, roping in a leading nationalised bank among others for the initiative.

Traffic offenders in the city can transfer the fine via debit or credit card against the issued e-challan. They can even use other online payment mechanisms including Paytm, SBI, QR code issued in the e-challan, go to Chennai corporation e-seva centres or courts and post offices.

Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan inaugurated the new system at an event held in police commissioner office on Thursday. He also handed over the newly updated handheld devices to traffic police personnel.

He said traffic police personnel should not receive cash from traffic violators. If anyone gave cash to police or police received cash from traffic violators, it would be considered bribe and legal action would be taken against both parties.

Police commissioner thanked state crime record bureau additional commissioner of police A Arun and joint commissioner of police R Sudhakar for taking immense efforts to roll out the system.

Around 300 swiping machines will do the rounds in various parts of the city for those offenders who want to pay by credit card. As for debit card users, police reportedly said it will take some time to get the payment mechanism in place.

The team has been shooting the song sequences for the film at Ramoji film city. Interestingly, Viswasam marks Imman's first film with Ajith Kumar, which explains the star inviting the composer to sets.

Meanwhile, Robo Shankar who plays an important role in Viswasam also posted pics of him with Thala Ajith.

"A rural set has been erected and director Siva has planned a 30-day schedule without any break. He wants to catch up the Deepavali deadline and compensate for the working days which were missed due to the recent strike by Tamil Film Producers Council," sources said.

Though recent reports suggested that 'Viswasam' is set in the backdrop of north Chennai with Ajith playing the role of a police officer, the latest update is that the film is a rural entertainer and a village set has been erected at Ramoji Rao Film City.

Rajini reveals his dream, indicates party will be launched at right time

Superstar Rajinikanth said on Wednesday night that his dream was to see the ‘linking of rivers’ in India.

Speaking at the audio launch of Kaala in Chennai, he said, "I loved the story of Linga and it reflected my life’s dream — interlinking all South Indian rivers."

"But it didn’t do well. I realised then that I have to start doing characters that are appropriate for my age. A 65-year-old can act as a 45-year-old, but not as a 30-year-old opposite a young female lead like Sonakshi Sinha, who is the same age as my daughters," he added.

He said that he hoped, just like millions of his admirers, to listen to the voice of former Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s voice again.

On director Pa Ranjith, he said, “I told him (Ranjith) that Kabali was your film but Kaala should be both my film and your film. Ranjith will not finish his career as a director. He is the one to think that his community, friends and family should come up in life.”

Rajini added: "After Kabali, I listened to a script from Vetrimaaran, which was superb. But it was an entirely political film. I did not have any plans to enter politics then. There is politics in Kaala, but it is not a political film."

Nivetha Pethuraj is angry and upset

Nivetha Pethuraj is angry and frustrated after pictures of a model in bikini began doing the rounds on social media.

Since the model had an uncanny resemblance to the actress, the pictures made certain section of the media to report Nivetha as the person in the photos.

Following this, the actress issued a statement, in which she said: "For the past few days some section of the media were constantly using the images of some aspiring artiste and had been using my name, thus creating an impression that it was me who is seen in that picture.

This was brought to my notice by many calls from well-wishers and friends. This deliberate attempt to malign my image has hurt me very badly.

I’m in touch with my legal team to handle this issue. Considering the huge respect I have for the media, I had been maintaining a dignified silence.

But it looks that there is no respite from this irresponsible act. May I request them to verify and carry the news and images of the concerned artiste.

After all, we are also human beings and we have a family too. We too live in a society which has bearings in our day to day life.  I hope this will put things in a straight line. Any further repeated acts according to my legal counsel will invite legal proceedings”.

EPS-OPS lay foundation stone for Jaya memorial, DMK protests 'pooja'

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam today laid the foundation stone for construction of a memorial for late and former CM J Jayalalithaa on the Marina Beach in Chennai.

Palaniswami placed the first brick for the construction on the ground, and Panneerselvam the second, marking the formal inauguration of work for the memorial at the beach complex.

The construction of the memorial is expected to be completed in 12 months time with an estimated cost of Rs 45 crore. The announcement of a grand memorial was made by TN chief minister in 2017.

A 'yagna' and special prayers were conducted ahead of the stone laying event in which Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai, Tamil Nadu Ministers, MPs and MLAs participated along with the chief minister and his deputy.

The opposition DMK in Tamil Nadu, however, objected to the religious ceremony organised by the government saying that such an event "violates the secular culture of the state".

NEET: TN student's father dies in Kerala, strict checks at exam halls

A 46-year-old man from Tamil Nadu, who accompanied his son to Kerala for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, (NEET) died of possible heart attack on Sunday as the aspiring doctor wrote the examination.

Krishnasamy and his son, Kasthuri Mahalingam, reached Ernakulam on Saturday and stayed in a lodge. As Krishnasamy felt chest pain and was not well, the lodge owner, who is said to be their relative, dropped Mahalingam at the exam centre - Nalanda Public School.

By the time the relative returned to the room, Krishnaswamy’s health condition had worsened. He was taken to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami conveyed his condolence to the kin of the deceased and announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh from the CM's Public Relief Fund.

Over 13 lakh candidates appeared for the national medical entrance exam NEET on Sunday at 2,225 centres across the country with authorities conducting stringent checks on dress code to avoid any malpractice during the examination.

A strict dress code, banning wallets, goggles, handbags, belt, cap and ornaments, pendants was put in place. Girls were asked not tie their hair and even asked to remove their anklets.

TN parties plan to intensify Cauvery protests

Opposition parties in the state including the DMK are planning to intensify protests for Cauvery Board.

DMK working president M K Stalin has said there would be no option but to convert Tamil Nadu into a hub of struggle if the Centre sought more time and dodged the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

The stage is set for an all-party meeting over the Supreme Court's verdict on the Cauvery water sharing dispute.

The meeting in Chennai will be attended by representatives of political parties and farmers' associations. The parties and associations will decide whether to file a review petition against the apex court's verdict.

Incensed by the delay in the setting up of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) by the Centre, farmers alleged that campaigning in the Karnataka elections seemed to hold much higher priority than the constitution of the board.

The apex court took strong note of the Centre for not yet framing the Cauvery management scheme to implement its verdict on river water sharing between four southern States.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko said the Supreme Court direction to the Karnataka government for releasing 4 TMC water was an eyewash.

Release Cauvery water to TN immediately: SC tells Karnataka

The Supreme Court today asked Karnataka to release at least 2 tmc of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and warned it of serious consequences if it fails to release the water.

It asked the Centre to file an affidavit on May 8, just 4 days before the Karnataka elections, on the steps it has taken to set up the Cauvery Management Board.

The Tamil Nadu government had gone to court alleging undue delay on the part of the Centre in setting up the CMB. The Supreme Court had in February ordered the Centre to set up the body, and had given it six weeks to do so.

Attorney general K K Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, sought 10 days for the formation of the CWMB and asked the court to wait till the Karnataka elections get over. He informed the the court that the scheme has to be approved by the Cabinet which could not meet because of non-availability of Prime Minister Modi, who after coming from another foreign trip has gone straight to Karnataka for campaigning for the State elections there.

Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra had reportedly said, 'We are not bothered about the polls. The scheme should have been framed by now.  States have no role in this. You are supposed to frame the scheme.' The three judge bench headed by the Chief Justice also asked the Centre to file an affidavit by 8 May (the day of next hearing) about steps taken so far for setting up of the CWMB.

The first single from Kaala, Semma Weighttu..., which was released on Tuesday evening, has evoked mixed reactions from Rajini fans.

Makuta co-founder and CEO Draper, who had worked in big blockbusters Eega, Ghajini, Magadheera, Endhiran and Baahubali, said, "The experience of working on the film has been very good."

He added: The set work which we have to do... It is one of the biggest that we have worked on.

In the meantime, Cadbury Five Star has come forward and signed deal with Kaala, which is all set to release on June 7. Airtel India is also likely to sign a deal with Kaala and Havells India has teamed up with the Rajinikanth starrer as consumer durable partner.

Stalin vows to unseat 'anti-labour' regimes in Centre, TN

DMK working president M K Stalin on Tuesday vowed to

unseat the anti-labour regime both in Tamil Nadu and at the Centre.

Addressing the labourers after paying tributes at the May Day Park in the city, he accused both the centre and the state governments of being anti-labour.

"We are not ready to accept the increased salary till such time the problem faced by (State-run) transport corporation employees are resolved," he said.

Stating that the DMK had always been striving for the labour class, he said it was Karunanidhi, who took up the matter with the then Prime Minister V P Singh and ensured that May day was declared a paid holiday all over the

"If you ask me the present status, all the AIADMK MLAs are getting the increased salary. Still we have not accepted it," he said.
