TN Assembly session to start on Jan 23

Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has summoned Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to meet on January 23.

"In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, CH Vidyasagar Rao, Governor of Tamil Nadu, hereby summon the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to meet at 10.00 A.M. on Monday, the 23rd January, 2017 in the Assembly Chamber, Secretariat, Chennai-600009," a Raj Bhavan notification said.

This will be published in an extraordinary issue of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated the 12th January, 2017.

The announcement came amid calls from the opposition for a special session to discuss the severe distress in farming sector that has hit hard thousands across the State.

The duration of this session will be decided by the Business Advisory Committee of the House after the Governor’s address is completed. The session is likely to last for five days.

The session is expected to go for a week. During the last day, the chief minister will give a detailed reply to the debate on thanksgiving motion to the governor's address.
