Why Puriyadha Pudhir opted out of Pongal race

In a surprise announcement, the makers of Vijay Sethupathi's Puriyadha Pudhir announced that the film would not hit the screens for Pongal, as announced earlier.

Though the producers are yet to reveal the exact reason for the delay, the film's official PR team has confirmed the news through their recent press statement.

It is learnt that the makers wanted to release the film in maximum screens possible and hence decided to opt out of Pongal race.

Puriyadha Pudhir is a psychological thriller film directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi and produced under Rebel Studio Productions.

Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie feature in the leading roles. The cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan. The movie was earlier titled Mellisai.

Following a period of delay, the film was sold to JSK Film Corporation in October 2016 and renamed Puriyatha Puthir.
