Nobody can stop my politicial entry: Jaya's niece Deepa

A month after her aunt, former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, passed away, Deepa Jayakumar hinted at her entry into politics on Friday, saying it cannot be stopped.

Deepa, MBA graduate who was hitherto unknown to the public, shot into media fame after images of her waiting outside the gates of Apollo Hospital after allegedly being denied access to meet her aunt Jayalalithaa when she was battling for her life on the night of December 4.

"My entry into politics cannot be stopped," she told supporters who had gathered at her Thyagaraya Nagar residence and indicated she would let know of her decision soon.

In interactions with media since Jayalalithaa's death, Deepa has been claiming that she has been receiving lot of requests from “partymen” to take a plunge into politics.

Deepa is the daughter of Jayalalithaa's only brother, Jayakumar. Deepa had urged her supporters on 29 December to be calm until she announced her decision. Jayalalithaa passed away on 5 December last year.

“I will discuss with my supporters, my family and others and arrive at a decision soon. There have been lot of requests but I will decide soon,” she told reporters.
